The Cybersecurity Bill – Many amendments filed to add privacy protections

President Barack Obama is currently pushing for a Cybersecurity bill and declared it is one of his priorities for 2012.  A previous version of the bill was pulled back in February due to privacy and personal liberty concerns, but the revised Cybersecurity Act of 2012 will be brought before the senate very soon. It is believed that the revised version of the Cybersecurity bill will have enough changes to make it more appealing for both sides. The bill was developed to prevent a cyber attack that could exploit the United States’ computer vulnerabilities.  The debate about the bill seems to

Employers Liability with Cell Phone Accidents

The cell phone has transformed our lives and made us available to anyone at any anytime. When first introduced the big selling point of cell phones was the positive effect it had on productivity. While the productivity argument is still valid, there is another thing to consider. We now know using the cell phone while driving significantly impairs our driving skills. Research shows that drivers who use cell phones are four times more likely to get into serious car crashes, even when using a hands-free device. Cell phone related car accidents can also affect a company, making it liable for the accident.

The Newest Technology Effect

There’s always a rush for the newest, the latest, the fastest – of just about anything. But in the technology field this is never truer than with cell phones. When did the IT purchasing process become like Congress?

I find it interesting the amount of effort most technology professionals exert to keep their vendors at arms length.  They seem to be so worried about being “sold to,” that they forget to engage the vendors in a way that can be an incredible asset to their organizations.   At the same time most vendors spend huge amounts of time and energy explaining that they are “consultative” sellers and not box pushers.  They work every day at breaking down walls to get the “customer” to listen and lament that they only want to do what is best for the customer. This
