I first met Pat Galvin over the phone in my role of channel manager. I called on him to introduce myself and learn more about his business. I remember him as warm and easy-to-talk to from the very beginning. Fast forward five years and we were able to reconnect last March at VXMadness 2.0.
Pat is warm, inviting and super insightful. He always had great input in our panel discussions and we could count on him for thought-provoking questions about industry trends.
He believes his customer are his biggest advocates. They become salespeople in their own community. And this is what proves—as their tagline states, “We are more than just talk.”
We had the opportunity to ask Pat a few questions at VXMadness—which you can watch below—and followed-up for some greater insight on him and his business.
Without further ado…Pat Galvin
Where do you see the unified communications space in the next five years?
I believe the ability to collaborate will increasingly become easier. Mobility and video conferencing particularly will become more ubiquitous within a company’s enterprise especially with more consumer-oriented devices—smartphones and tablets—being used by employees.
What is the Biggest Mistake You’ve Made in Your Career?
Not being more diligent about building a strong set of recurring revenue streams for our company.
What is the most common question you are asked from customers?
“You’re not retired yet?” Seriously…The second most asked question probably has to do whether or not we recommend a cloud-based or premise-based voice solution. We try to understand our customer’s needs and goals and craft a solution that best fits their situation. Fortunately, we have excellent cloud and premise options for our customers.
That cloud is the ONLY way to go and that it is the solution now and forever. While there are definitely good cloud solutions for some customers, it isn’t a fit for everyone. This industry is so cyclical. I predict at some point in the next couple of years the so-called industry analysts will again be preaching the benefits of premise-based solutions over cloud whether it is for disaster recovery requirements, storage or unified communications.
What is One Thing about Yourself that Would Surprise Most People?
I have a degree in Agronomy—specifically in Soil Science. About as far away from Unified Communications as you can get.
Where You Can Find Pat Galvin
Contrary to popular belief, Pat is not retired, but works hard building the West-Tech business. When Pat is not gardening, camping or hiking in beautiful Colorado with his wife Cindy, he can be found on Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and on the web at www.west-tech.net. Watch the video here.
