Skype for Business (formerly known as Lync) is proving to be a game-changer in the IP conversation. Whether or not you have a Microsoft Skype for Business practice, it’s a question you should be asking your clients – because they are talking about it and looking into it. And if you’re not asking about it and having that conversation, they are having it with someone else – probably your competitor.
A June 2015 T3i Group Market Intelligence report analyzed the implementation plans of more than 300 Enterprises and SMBs and concluded that Microsoft Lync (Skype for Business) should be recognized as a significant risk to incumbent IP-PBX vendors.
Currently, 77 % of the U.S. Enterprises studied (companies with 500+ employees), are either conducting or had completed trials of Microsoft Skype for Business.
That was up from 72% in the 2014 study and almost double the 42% from the 2013 study. Only 3% of the Enterprises indicated they had no plans to trial Skype for Business.
So when you ask your customer, “What is your Skype for Business (Lync) strategy? Are you considering it for IM, Presence, Video or Enterprise Voice (EV)?” how will you respond to their answer? How does their answer affect the current infrastructure you support?
The major manufacturers out there have an answer for this. Here are articles and videos from Avaya, Cisco, ShoreTel, NEC, Tadiran, and Mitel. If these manufacturers have gone so far as to have videos and articles on their web sites, isn’t it something you should be asking about?
