Partner Spotlight: How a Standing Desk Helped a VXSuite Partner Fight Fatigue

Back at the end of May VXSuite partner Jon Giberson of CONNECTIONS shared with us his experiment to try a standing desk to fight constant headaches, fatigue, and back pain.

He discovered the idea of using a standing desk when he read an article detailing the medical hazards of sitting at a desk all day.

He asked his personal physician if sitting all day might be affecting his health and, if so, if he had any suggestions to help his fatigue. His physician  said anytime you are sedentary, your body is not working as hard. He suggested a couple tools that can be used to engage the core muscles and may reduce fatigue: A medicine ball and a standing desk.

Something as simple as sitting on a medicine ball may help because it engages your abdominal muscles. He cautioned there are mixed results on that, though. Some users experience low back pain, so switching between the chair and the ball might be a better idea.

His favorite way to fight fatigue was to use a standing desk. He suggested Jon start small by placing his laptop on a stack of books or boxes and try it for a short spells. Going from sitting all day to standing all day might be too much, but by gradually increasing his standing periods, he would be able to use the standing desk all day in no time.

The Call-to-action Against Sitting All Day

Jon purchased the VARIDESK Pro 48 which allows him to change from a sitting desk to a standing desk in less than 10 seconds.

He said installation was easy. He just cleared his desk off and set it on top. There is no installation and nothing to screw into or attach to the desk. He was up and standing in minutes.

The Results of a Stand-up Desk

In addition to having more energy and shedding a few pounds, Jon said the standing desk has made a huge difference in his business. “I am more energized during the day and can make it through the afternoon without feeling drowsy or popping Advil for pain,” he said.

An Added Bonus Standing Desk

Jon has experienced increased energy and absence of headaches, but the real proof of how well it was working  came last Saturday!

Jon set out with three friends to play a round of golf and shot his best score in 12 months. He shot an 80, and his average is 87.9, so to take off one stroke every other hole was a real win. And his buddies wouldn’t stop asking what his secret was

Jon strongly encourages you to read the articles and take action to improve your quality of life by standing up to work!

I used to be a call center agent who sits at the desk 8-10 hours a day with all the calls coming in with people yelling and degrading you in every single way. I really felt like I was slowly dying so I left and now I'm working at home, occasionally using my stand desk or my adjustable desk.
